Standlake CE Primary School Vision

We are very proud of the strong Christian ethos that underpins all that we do at Standlake Church of England Primary School; our vision is driven by the words of our chosen Bible text – Matthew 5: 14-16.

We are a community where every member is a light in the world – full of unique gifts, potential and purpose. We are committed to nurturing an environment where everyone is encouraged to shine brightly in who they are and what they do.

Light of the World    Matthew 5: 14-16

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone’s house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your father in heaven.

Through our Shine curriculum, we aim high for all, offering both challenge and support so that every child can grow in confidence, character and capability. We believe that by recognising and nurturing each child’s individual strengths, they can achieve their full potential-academically, socially and spiritually.

We enable children to understand their place in the world, who they are and how they can serve others. We actively create opportunities for service to others, helping children understand the value of compassion, kindness, support and friendship – just as Jesus taught.

Our wider curriculum is designed to develop responsible and inclusive global citizens. We help children understand the wider world and their place in it, encouraging them to embrace difference, celebrate diversity, and act justly and wisely.

Together, we seek to be a school family where every light is seen, every voice is heard and every individual matters.

As a church school, we are inspected by SIAMS (Statutory Inspection of Anglican and Methodist Schools). Our last inspection was in December 2025 and you can read the report here:

How the ‘No Outsiders’ Programme Supports Our School Vision

At Standlake CE Primary School, our vision is to be a community “where every member is a light in the world – full of unique gifts, potential and purpose.” The No Outsiders programme plays a vital role in helping us bring this vision to life, ensuring that every child feels valued, included and empowered to shine.

Rooted in the teaching from Matthew 5:14–16, we believe that every child has a light that deserves to be seen. No Outsiders supports this by promoting a culture where all children are respected for who they are. Through carefully chosen stories and discussions, pupils learn that everyone is welcome in our school family, and that differences—whether in appearance, beliefs, families or abilities—are something to be celebrated. This directly mirrors our commitment to encouraging every individual to “shine brightly in who they are and what they do.”

Our Shine curriculum aims to help children grow in confidence, character and capability. The No Outsiders programme enriches this by giving children the language and understanding they need to navigate the diverse world around them. It teaches acceptance, empathy and respect—essential qualities for developing compassionate and responsible global citizens.

Just as Jesus taught the importance of kindness, friendship and service, No Outsiders encourages children to consider the impact of their words and actions on others. Through open conversations and reflective activities, pupils learn how to stand up for what is right, support their peers and foster a community where everyone is seen and heard.

By embedding No Outsiders within our wider curriculum, we help children recognise their own light while also learning to recognise and nurture the light in others. It strengthens our vision of a school where every voice matters, every individual is valued, and every child understands their place in the world.

Together, we continue to build a community where difference is celebrated, inclusion is lived out daily, and every child is empowered to let their light shine

Small Hands Change the World

As part of our Small Hands Change the World approach, collective worship at Standlake CE Primary begins each half term by focusing on an inspirational young person—such as Kelvin Doe or Malala Yousafzai—whose actions embody our chosen Christian value for the half term. Their stories help our children understand that age is no barrier to making a difference. Throughout the year, pupils take part in four ‘Small Hands Change the World’ sessions in their mixed-age house teams, offering their time and kindness to others. These experiences include visiting the local care home, maintaining our school grounds and our school allotment, raising money for charity through baking and after-school bake sales, and making positive changes within our school by tackling environmental issues. In all these ways, children learn to “let their light shine” so that others may be supported, encouraged and inspired to shine their light too.

Shining Our Light Through Our Partnership with NASIO Trust

At Standlake CE Primary School, our vision encourages every child to “let their light shine”—and through our partnership with the NASIO Trust, we see how our light can help others’ flames burn brighter. The NASIO Trust, based in Oxfordshire, provides vital support for children and families in Kenya, helping them access education, food and opportunities to thrive.

As part of our Small Hands Change the World initiative, each of our house teams sponsors a child, raising money to ensure they can attend school. Alongside this, we are supporting the NASIO Trust’s porridge kitchen project, helping to provide daily nutritious meals to children who need them most. Through fundraising activities, our pupils learn that even small actions can make a real difference, allowing them to shine their light in the world and help others shine theirs too.

By connecting our efforts at Standlake with the lives of children and families in Kenya, we live out our vision of nurturing compassion, responsibility and generosity, showing that when we shine together, we can light up the world.
